    Timex Restoration????

Anyone know somewhere where I may be able to get an older Timex restored? It is my grandfathers watch, and would love to see it back in action.

A complete restoration could easily cost several hundred dollars if a lot of work is needed. I doubt that is what you want. My suggestion would be to have a competent local watch repair shop service the movement and polish the crystal at a price of $150 or so.

Post some pictures when you get a chance.

    Re: Timex Restoration????

Duplicate post on our Affordable Watches Forum deleted. One thread should do the trick.

What do you think needs to be done ? Replacing parts, if available at all, might become costly.
    Kind regards

Go with an independent watchmaker - and if it's really dear to you, don't think too much about the price tag of the service. It'll easily run you several times what the watch costed new. But sentimental value is priceless, and grandpa watches are the best. You'll never regret doing it.

Take it to a watchmaker to see what needs doing and get a quote for the work. Like many of the other posters have said be prepared for a big bill.

    Re: Timex Restoration????

The watch back is missing as well as the movement, I looked on ebay for the same watch (for parts) but came up shorthanded. Would I need to find the exact parts, or can a watchmaker/repairer use something different?

Personally if that watch was my grandpa's,I will go for full original parts...no matter how much is the cost...

It is your grandfathers watch and I assume it has sentimental value to you. If so do not go for other parts than original. A pieced together watch is of no value at all.

Yes I agree that the movement, back and presumably hands should be the ones that would have come with that watch. A good watch repair shop may know of sources for parts.
