Tisell Marine Diver vs Seiko Orange Monster Dilemma

My current grail watch is a Submariner. That probably isn't likely to change. That's not close to being within budget at this moment in time either. So I'm trying to decide whether it's better to wear either the Tisell or the Monster until that time comes.

I know the various pros and cons of each. The Tisell (and other various other models of Sub homage) looks the part, and is built well, but it isn't the real deal. I also wonder if it could devalue the the experience of actually having the real thing when the time comes.

The Monster is more original obviously. It's also starkly different looking to a Sub (not a big fan of the Black Monster oddly).

So I'm looking for advice. What would you all do? I know homage watches bring about different reactions, and the Monster is a bit of a legend. Also the Tisell has a good set of features. Any heavily Sub inspired watch would make me wonder the same thing.

Thanks for your input, and yes, I've probably thought way to much about this lol.

I would consider the Tisell Vintage Sub (no date), it's not as much a rip off of the contemporary Rolex, and it looks good paired with a Bond NATO strap. The Miyota 9015 movement is excellent, and having a domed sapphire crystal is another nice touch. This is mine, beside my Rolex Submariner 114060.

Metallman, fish70, Nokie and 2 others like this.

Patek Philippe Calatrava 5119J; Vacheron Constantin Overseas; Jaeger-LeCoultre Grande Reverso Duo; Rolex Submariner 114060; Omega Seamaster 300; Montblanc Heritage Dual Time; Tudor Black Bay.

Armida A12; Borealis Estoril; Bulova Accutron II Alpha, Moonwatch; Casio GMW-B5000D, GW-5000, GST-W310; Certina DS-2; Coach Fulton; Hamilton Khaki Field; Helson Skindiver; Orient 60th Anniversary; Seagull Tourbillon, 1963 Air Force; Seiko SNA089P, SUN025P1; Steinhart OVM; Swatch Body and Soul, Heracles, Sistem51, Uncle Charly; Victorinox Alliance, Infantry Vintage.

An interesting option to consider. Thanks, and beautiful Sub!

If you want a sub homage buy a Steinhart. The Seiko is a totally different watch. To me they are so different it hard to choose between the 2. To me, I’d rather have a Steinhart then a Monster

Not even close, a Monster, and my preference would be the 2nd generation version. Why get a lesser version of the watch you know you are going to get later anyway, it may spoil your fantasy/dream of the watch you want.
And you will have two originals, not just one and a lookalike.
Also there's speculation that that the Monster is due for a change because of the recent website renders of the 4th generation. I really wanted a SS version but I'm not willing to shell out the cash for one and I love both of my black pvd ones..

I'd go Tisell or Stienhart. I believe Mr O of Tisell may even mod the watch for you if you want different hands. I love my Monster. But I would not try to decide between a Monster or Sub homage. They are just way to different.

That's interesting. I am also concerned about spoiling the dream as you said. I have an orange 2nd gen, and part of me thinks that between my Monster and patience I should hold off on anything else.

Also, those pvd Monsters are sweet. Thanks for your input!

It is hard to choose. I'll take a closer look at the Steinharts. Thanks!

I don't think you can spoil the experience with a sub homage. For me, nothing feels like a modern Sub (114060) on the wrist and l tried several homages just see if I could live with a 40mm watch. (I can, love the maxi case)
You may even have a greater appreciation for the real thing after wearing something "almost" the same the Sub.
