    Trade war!...

Forget the agriculture, energy and steel industries...what about watches, what about us!? Should we start to hoard?...

    Re: Trade war!...

Weakening the renminbi will make imported watches more expensive in China; this will presumably lead the Chinese to buy fewer of them. If Rolex etc. have ramped up production to meet Chinese demand they will have to look elsewhere for markets, which could mean cheaper prices in other countries.

On the other hand, a round of “competitive devaluations” could cause price increases. A weakening of the global trade system could also affect tariff rates, but if this affects the US-EU relationship Switzerland, like a post-Brexit UK, could seek its own trade deals with the US and other countries.

tl;dr stay tuned, it’s all up in the air.

ps all the above is intended a little tongue-in-cheek. The world trade system has bigger things to worry about!

I assumed OP is making a little joke, and I tried to reply in similar deadpan, false-panicked humor. Just shows how hard it is to read people’s “tone of voice” on the internet.
