I have a feeling this is going to be the first in a long line of posts like this from me so bear with me. Skip to the last parigraph if you don’t want the story behind this and just wanna skip to the question.

My uncle passed this last year, when my cousin was sorting through his stuff she found a bag of watches with my name on it. I have been sorting through them. Some pretty cool stuff and also the papers to go with my 69 omega he gave me when he was in the hospital.

My uncle had this Swiss army watch that was his favorite out of all of them. I think he said he got it when he got out of the service. There is a Swiss army in the bag but I don’t think it’s THAT. Swiss army because it’s quartz, he was Korea era and quartz wouldn’t have been invented yet. The thing that gets me with this watch is that there is his initials engraved in the back With the date 6/10/94. The patina on the watch looks to be much older than 25 years the strap also looked far older than 25 years. Speaking of the strap the one that was on the watch was a 18mm the watch takes a 19. In the bag there was a strap box with a 19mm strap that was wore out like crazy with no buckle on it and two new buckles beside it. I think that is the original strap and some one carried the Swiss army bucks over to a new one. All these thing lead me to believe that this watch is older than 94 and somthing significant happened in his life on that date and he had it engraved later. I wish he was still here so I could ask him.

So the question what year would you place this watch at. Some of the pictures the watch is wearing a brand new hadly Roma I just put on it. Name: 4F05BB25-0D55-4751-92BB-6C730E210C0A_1561696363745.jpeg

They made that model in the early 90s so the date is probably right.

Agreed. I purchased that model with a red accent in the early 90's.

And add in a cool factor that Mandy Patinkin wore this model, (red accent) in the early episodes of Criminal Minds.

BTW, mine is still functional and keeps fantastic time to +5 sec. per week and it's only had (non-routine) battery changes.

I do love that show. I have seen the ones with the red not yet seen one with the black. The watch was running when I pulled it out of the bag so I do think that he did like this one. Maby this is the one they gave him for his retirement gift.

Per Google Swiss Army introduced this watch in the United States in 1989. It’s the first watch made by Swiss Army ( I think this is prior to Victorinox taking over the Swiss Army name -there’s a thread here outlining the Victorinox Swiss Army history) and the first models have a ETA quartz movement. Mine is model 24251.

"Base Metal" watches patina pretty quickly. They are usually bronze or brass, coated with something silver to make them look like stainless steel. The coating wears off and the base material underneath starts to patina.

Cool thanks for the info. If I’m not mistaken I think I saw your watch in the for sale section. That’s a really cool piece
