    turning hands backwards

Is it bad to set the time on a watch by turning the hands counter (anti) clockwise? I am thinking of situations such as flying across time zones (east to west) or at Daylight Savings Time, etc. Do the same rules apply for mechanical and quartz? I have recent Omega and Swiss Army mechanicals and a pile of quartz watches.

    Thanks.

I think in general you are safe as long as you don't cross midnight or where your watch changes the day/date. Going an hour or two in the middle of the day should be fine.

Check the maker's suggestions for each mechanical movement. For example, one widespread suggestion or caution is that you should NOT change the time on a v.7750 chronograph between 9 pm and 3 am, because the day/date change mechanism will be engaged for that six hour period and can be damaged, requiring repair.

I've never heard of a problem with a quartz movement, but better to be safe than sorry.
