Question Two Vintage Watch Reborn? Tissot vs. Longines

Everybody likes polls right? So here's another one.

Two watch brands shows off their new re-iteration of their vintage watches with Tissot Visodate and Longines Silver Arrow. Both are beautiful pieces no doubt but if you had to pick one, which one would you choose?

    Details:

    Tissot Visodate

    RETAIL $650
    39.3mm
    STAINLESS STEEL
    WR 30M
    DOMED SAPPHIRE CRYSTAL
MOVEMENT CALIBER SWISS ETA 2836-2 AUTOMATIC
    BATTERY LIFE 42 HOURS
    DAY/DATE

    Longines Silver Arrow

    RETAIL $1,500
Case : Round, in stainless steel with “Hesalite” glass; screw-down case back.
    Diameter: 38.50 mm. Water-resistant to 30 meters (~100 feet).
Movement : L619 self-winding mechanical movement beating at 28'800 vibrations per hour and providing 42 hours of power reserve.
Functions : Hours, minutes and seconds. Date at 3 o’clock
Dial : Silvered with 11 silvered applied indexes, silvered “Dauphine-shape” hands with Superluminova.

There is a big price difference in the two so that might be a big disadvantage for the Longines but Longines does have a quite a history in itself and they are trying to rebuild themselves up.

Haha, I was just going to say....
Assuming its a mechanical movement though, I would take the Tissot

Both look very nice, but I'd have to say the Silver Arrow edges out the Visodate for me ... and, it has hesalite which is a huge plus for a replica/re-issue.
    Collection:
A few of this and some of the other ...

After seeing real-life pictures of both, I prefer the more slender case of the Silver Arrow. In fact, I really, really like the Silver Arrow and if only it didn't have the date window....

I just copy and pasted it but I think they meant power reserve.

    Longines

The Visodate looks like a modern watch w/a semi-vintage dial. The longines looks like a vintage watch.

    I pass on both.
Way too bland for my taste.
Why does both companies waste time and effort on developing retro-watches like this, when they have far more unique and interesting historical pieces to bring back?

Re: Two Vintage Watch Reborn? Tissot vs. Longines

I'm not normally a fan of Tissots but that one is good. The font used for Tissot is particularly awesome, and is the highlight of the watch.

It would possibly be nice without the day and date, definitely without the day. Good value.

I don't see the point of the Longines. For that sort of $ you can get some amazing vintage Longines which shame both of these in every way.

Re: Two Vintage Watch Reborn? Tissot vs. Longines

Toby, you make a valid point about being able to pick an actual vintage Longines that is in pristine condtion for that price, but this is just an mental exercise meant to pass the time. If it came down to actually shelling out the cash I'd be more likely to opt for the Tissot since I don't have one (and do own a vintage Longines)and it isn't bad looking, but I voted for the Longines as I view it as a more prestigious brand that really does a creditable job of emulating the look and sensibility of a vintage piece, IMO.
