US customs duty for watches below $800

Not sure if this is the right forums to ask this, mods please move if needed.

I bought a watch from an online store in Netherlands ( a casio protrek model prw-6600ybe-5jr that's out of stock / discontinued everywhere). The item is already shipped through Fedex and the value is 389 euros. This is under $800 so from what I read it shouldn't be charged customs. Does Fedex still charge paper work fees ? Thanks

I doubt it but if you are concerned ask Fedex to be sure.

Don’t know how it works on your side of the Pond but here couriers charge you for paying the duty on your behalf rather than billing you for “paperwork”

did you have a choice in shipping? I use EMS/Global Priority whenever possible and I have never had any issues getting through customs with lower priced items like this. I am pretty sure you are fine if the paperwork is filled out correctly and includes the wristwatch worksheet that fedex uses to determine duties.

Thanks, I have no choice only 1 shipping option is available and I didn't even know it's Fedex international express until I got the email from Fedex. It's fast alright but I really don't want to be billed extra. I checked with Fedex and the agent said for customs the seller reported $520 as the value. So hopefully no duty will be charged.
