Usage of the Sistem 51 movement in Swatch group brands

    Hi guys!

    First post here.

I’m a proud owner of a Swatch Sistem 51 and love the idea behind making the cheapest automatic watch.
Are you guys aware of any other brands in the Swatch group that has started using this automatic movement beside the Swatch Sistem 51 and the Sistem 51 Irony?

I believe the system51 is exclusive to swatch as its not jntended to even be servicable.

Swatch groups slightly more expensive brands use things like the powermatic 80

The Tissot Swissmatic uses a movement that is clearly derived from the Sistem51.

I think Tissot uses it,or something similar, in it's lower priced Swissmatic line.

Mleok nailed it. A modified version is being used by Tissot as a currently brand-limited option. It has all the benefits and drawbacks of the Sistem51 in a less funky format.

I'd also note that the Sistem51 isn't the cheapest automatic watch by a long shot; it's entirely possible to get a decent Seiko for about half the price of a plastic Sistem51, but you didn't specify "Swiss Made."

Yep. Swatch doesn't want the lower end of their scale to be too low, as this devalues, to some degree, the upper end watches. And the Sisteme51 movement itself is a curious product because it actually challenges too many aspects of traditional watchmaking. Stephen Pulvirent wrote in a Hodinkee article:

You could choose to look at this as a good thing or a bad thing. On the good side of the coin, Swatch and Tissot have developed a way to produce an automatic Swiss movement at a very low price. On the bad side of the coin, sure it’s technically an automatic Swiss movement, but one without the qualities of hand-finishing, craftsmanship, and tradition that tend to give that sort of thing value. Like I said, watches are often about compromises.
In some ways, this is no-battery quartz. A sentiment you see in Grand Seiko threads is "Seiko? They don't make anything good" because Seiko has so many department store watches. Well, the Sisteme51 and Swissmatic movements are fairly similar to that. Completely machine made. Disposable. Inexpensive.
The truth is rarely pure and never simple.

Worn and Wound states the System 51 irony can be serviced. Still for the price you are firmly in SKX territory and many others so unless you really do like their freaky straps and designs I think they priced these too high.

It's probably the greatest threat to luxury watches since the 80s.
Luckily for other watchmakers, it's made by the swatch group, so they won't shoot themselves in the foot by producing high end versions.

Hardly. Just open the next best thread with "Apple watch" in the topic..

The Sistem 51 / Swissmatic will find its niche, but that's about it.

Tissot announced it's making a $500 auto chrono. Folks have speculated that the movement will be based on the Sistem51.
