My experience is mostly the opposite. An example of this is the new Breguet Marine 5517. In photos or rendering or what have you, it didn't intrigue me in the least. In person, the watch comes alive, and you can almost see the waves rolling as light reflects off the guilloche dial and the notorious lumed Roman numerals look great.

I'm disappointed in my Bulova - it just looks too ugly to me and I never wear it except for this photo. I dislike the silver bezel. It was only 100 and I was interested to see if it's more accurate than my other quartzes, and it is but I think, "so what". I plain dislike the watch but doubt I would get a good price for it.

I find that on average, the photography in the WUS forums is far more representative of a watch as I might see it in real life than the often used stock images by marketers. There are several watches I now own because a forum member posted a pic of theirs and I was not disappointed when I unpacked my own version of it :)

    That's a very nice watch.

I sold mine and regret it. I think it's a great looking watch. I can't find one to buy in my area, and I've looked.

Check it out at an AD. If you like the rendering from Breguet's website, you'll love it in the metal!

I tend to stop in to ogle the watches whenever I go to the fancy mall. The salesmen are always very kind and encouraging even though I am open that these are aspirational timepieces. They play the long game! Maybe one day...

Re: Very beautiful in photo yet very disappointéd in real life

I’m not often underwhelmed or disappointed by the aesthetics when I see a watch in person for the first time. What I’ve found is that while they may not look exactly like the marketing/CGI pics I’d seen, it’s not until you’ve had a chance to see them in different lighting scenarios that their true character is revealed. When I’m considering a watch at an AD, I’ll usually ask to take it outside so I can see how natural light plays off the dial...and often times that’s when I’ll find the nuances that drew me to it in the first place.

On the other hand, I am sometimes disappointed in the “feel” of a watch...which isn’t really conveyed in photos. The Bulova Moon Watch is a perfect example. I snagged one on a whim a few years ago and have never actually worn it. It just has a “feel” that doesn’t resonate with me....”cheap”, for lack of a better term. I also find the strap to be horrifically uncomfortable, and even on aftermarkets it just doesn’t sit well on my wrist for some reason. That’s all very subjective of course, I’m just sharing my personal opinion. Bracelets can also be extremely difficult to judge from photos; not because they look different in person...but because the feel, heft and articulation can be very different than what was expected.

For me it's the DateJust 41 with the blue dial. Looks amazing in photos and was pretty set on getting it but when I saw it in real life it was very underwhelming. It's a sunburst dial so the color is very dependant on the lighting.
