    A watch for the Apocalypse?

What would be a good watch to have when (not if) the apocalypse comes? Or would one even need a watch in a post apocalyptic world?

I'm thinking a simple mechanical one could service one's self. Or a Casio quartz with a 10 year battery, with a couple back up batteries.

Few G-shocks with spare batteries would PROBABLY be the way to go.

Of course, if you are somewhat mechanically inclined, then you can probably get an ETA 2824 based mechanicals and then raid a watch repair shop for all the spare parts that you need to keep it going indefinitely. Only issue would be how do you know if your watch is drifting? (it will probably need another Quartz watch to keep it reasonably timed. IF you do not need it to be reasonably timed, then you do not need a watch, UNLESS you ONLY intend to use mechanical chronograph feature. It can probably keep the time within a minute or 2 within 24 hours period - so chronograph may be the way to go for feature wise. - for that I was going to say Lemania based - Speedy Pro?)

Just for that, I would PROBABLY stay away from mech. watches.

WOOO!! How about Seiko Kinetics or Citizen Ecodrives? How long do THOSE last?
    Chronic flipper...

    Citizen Skyhawk Black eagle.
It just fits with the image I got from the title, and I am wearing it now
Hopefully the Sun will shine so the power will never deplete.
A Seiko Kinetic diver would also be great.

    P.S.
That's *IF* the Apocalypse ever comes...

Sorry to say, but this is one of the most needless questions I read here on WUS.
What watch would you wear when entering the cage of a Siberian tiger ?

I'm assuming the OP is posting the question for humor... Hopefully.
As for the Siberian Tiger cage... Maybe an alligator band watch. The smell might help.

Re: A watch for the Apocalypse?

It seems every week someone posts this question. Do a search and you'll find dozens of threads on this topic. I'm with Mike on this one - the topic gets tiring after one has seen it dozens of times. Do a search.

The answers tend to involve "tough" watches that are either very basic (solar powered quartz) or extremely sturdy (basic automatic with a big strong case).
    Lots of dive watches.

    Ha!

I'd take a GSAR I have a TSAR but I think the need to replace batteries would be difficult in a post apocalyptic wasteland.

Any watch that will last strapped to an AR-15

Understeer is when you hit the wall with your front end. Oversteer is when you hit the wall with your rear end. Horsepower is how hard you hit the wall. Torque is how far you move the wall.

i never fought a Siberian tiger in a cage, but did get attacked in the wild by one when in Russia on holiday. i was wearing a Timex. It died BTW, not by me, it was shot.

Anyways Mike, isnt watch collecting needless in general, were just having a laugh and bullsh*tting about.

back to the topic, id def go with this, as was stated earlier by another member:
