    Which Watch Got you Started?

For me it was about 4 years ago that I saw this Fortis Flieger on the forums and had to have it...before that I almost never wore a watch.

Anyway, it's been on many different straps and lived through all sorts of abuse. For the past couple of years it has mostly been residing in a drawer but I can't bring myself to sell it. Love that orange sweep, the brushed case and the AR coated crystal that seems invisible at times. I put it on a Watchadoo bracelet today and fell back in love with it. Lovely watch and for the money it's pretty tough to beat.

What watch got you interested in collecting?

An Ingersoll Mickey Mouse watch I received on my fourth birthday in 1972.
    I still have it.

I had one of those at that time too. Mine had a red leather strap. Long gone though...

A Timex watch when I was about 5! At about 5 1/2 I learned the difference between water resistant and water proof.

I'm not talking about your FIRST watch here necessarily. I want to know what your first NICE watch was.

Re: Which Watch Got you Started?

That's a great looking Fortis and a hot bracelet - really nice.

For me, I got this Timex mechanical watch in the late 60's from my grandparents. I was about 10 years old. Sorry for the bad Photoshop skills. I still have it and it still runs!

Then about 10 years ago, I saw this Kienzle in a watch magazine I just happened to pick up and spent months trying to aquire it (before it was so easy with the internet).

I had German friends write letters for me that I faxed to Kienzle. They didn't import to the US and referred me to distributors in Italy (I then had to find Italian speaking friends to translate).

Anyway, after about 6 months of work I eventually ended up with it and thus began the slippery slope down to this fun and interesting (but expensive) hobby. It shows a lot of wear - the sterling silver case is tarnished and the silver plating on the pushers is worn through to the brass base-metal, but I think it's pretty.

I don't wear her anymore, but since it's "Old Number One", I'll keep her.

    Let's see more people's firsts!

    My little friends:

    Casio G-Shock GW-5000
    Casio G-Shock GD-350
    Casio G-Shock Rangeman GW-9400
    Kienzle Chronograph
    Omega Speedmaster PRO
    Orient Star Classic
    Rolex Submariner
    Seiko 007 Diver
    Seiko Turtle Diver
    Seiko SARB 021

    Seiko 7A28 Chrono

And a few other fun watches ...

Thumbs Up Re: Which Watch Got you Started?

Took a lot of lickins but it's still ticking.

    I like the Kienzle too.

Peter that looks sharp, I have always liked that watch, and the heavy watchadoo bracelet does it, very nice.

    " For watches there's always TIME "

I was asked what the time was that was on my watch ?
Does anybody really know what time it is ?
    Does anybody really care ?
If so I can't imagine why..........
I do, I do, I do care about time.
    (Thanks R Lamm)
