    watch servicing question

hey team...took my used Alpinist in to a watch repair place...said it was $250
for a full go-over plus fixing a sticky hair spring.

is that a "fair" price? just curious what prices are around the USA for
    general servicing.

    thanks,
    marty

Seiko will charge you $260, so slightly less than sending it in to the OEM.

More than fair, was it outside the city limits. My guy in Santa Clara would probably change 280 to 330 USD.

From my experience that’s a fair price. Just make sure it’s reputable repair shop

Pretty fair, depends on where you are too. To service my vintage Datejust was $350, but he did it all including cleaning the hands with a sticky gum or something, replaced seals and tested for WR 100m. I say you got a good deal.

Hey Marty, shoot me an email. There's a local watchmaker that can probably do it for a bit less.

Sounds pretty reasonable to me, based on past servicing experiences.

From my experience of U.S. prices it doesn’t seem bad.

This is where I'm grateful much of my collection is Russian/German, I had a chronograph which hadn't been serviced for so long that it started to stall if the complication was running - it cost 40 euros to have done, works good as new now.
