    Watch store eye candy

I was strolling through Yodobashi, a large electronics and appliance store in Tokyo that sells watches, too, and snapped these photos yesterday. They have some great watches.

I like that white-face, leather strap Royal Orient in the third photo.

    Gotta get back to Tokyo...

There sure are some nice watches in your pics. I've heard from many people that have been to Tokyo that it's very expensive. How do the watch prices compare to North America?

It's a shame that the displays suck so bad.

Most Japanese watches that I've priced are less expensive here, but that could be a function of the current dollar versus yen value. For example, I've seen at Grand Seiko SBGR061 for $3,100 and a Grand Seiko SBGW031 for $2,900. Orient watches, too, are less expensive in Japan than the US, or so it seems to me.

I'm on a hunt for a Nomos. I haven't seen any around Tokyo and I'm curious about how much one costs in Japan.

Tokyo in general isn't any more expensive than Washington, DC and New York City, two other cities I've lived in. Rent here is decent, as are food prices and public transportation. Energy costs --my heating and cooling bill-- gets pricey, even in a small apartment, though.
