    Which watch would you take on the Dawson – Pitamakan hike and why?

    Heading out to Montana and Banff to do some hiking and am especially looking forward to this part. I will be gone for 8 days at least. There will be long day hikes but no back country tent camping. First which watch should I take, and if you want, what watch might you take that is not on the list? These are my choices from my current collection. FB on the hikes in the area is appreciated too.

    My choices from my collection.
    1. Damasko DA46- toughest, auto, expensive, beautiful, small, medium weight 100m
    2. Luminox Sea ANU- big, heavy, quartz, tough, tritium, moderate replacement cost, 200m
    3. Traser Commander- Ti, quartz, small and light, tritium, inexpensive, 200m (leaning this way)
    4. Garmin running watch- plastic, light, short battery life, GPS and other features, ugly, poor lum, cheap

    Damasko - it's tough and beautiful.
    I've worn various watches hiking and never had a problem - most can stand up to rough terrain, dip in the lake, waterfalls, etc....

    I did a 9 day back country hike through Glacier and Waterton last year. I brought a G-Shock, Suunto MC-2G, and topo map... and a big can of bear spray just in case.

    From your list, I would take the Luminox as style and fashion are unnecessary. You should choose something that is dependable and that you will not mind damaging.

    Solar = better

    One of the Tritium will be real handy at night.

    Go for reliability and lightness, in that order.

    Damasko if you have other nice watches or won't be heart broken if something happens - if not, cheap and quartz. Also, you might want to consider what, if any, ramifications there would be if by chance a battery dies.
