Watches That Looks Better in Photos Than In The Metal

Are there any watches you've seen online or in magazines that looked amazing, but were disappointing when you handled them in person?

Probably not a popular opinion, but for me it was the Tudor Black Bay 58. Wasn't a bad watch in person, just the edited pictures online always have the contrast and blacks increased so the gold and black popped much more.

I thought the Baume Mercier Classima Executive Open Heart was a drag. It was so boring and lackluster I dumped it.

I bought a used SMPc because I fell in love with the photos on the Omega website. I bought it used on Crown and Caliber and when I got it, the ceramic bezel looked completely different and was a total turn off. I returned it.

Usually I'm pretty impressed by how nice a watch looks in person vs in pics. My one disappointment was a hesalite Speedy. It was just a pretty dull package on the bracelet. I traded it away, though I really like chronographs-- about 8 in my pile of watches.

Many in the Damasko line up. The DA 34 and DA 36 dials look great in photos, but on the wrist, the case is too chunky, with almost no tapering, so it is like affixing a rock to my wrist.
Also, the Sinn 556i series (various dial colors)--all look very nice in pictures, some even stunning, but in hand, quite ordinary and underwhelming. All of these took me several attempts before I learned my lesson.

I was one of the people who purchased the LE blue Alpinist based on the Hodinkee photos, which looked nothing like the actual watch. The photos showed what appeared to be a blasted case and matte blue dial. In reality, the case is mostly polished and the dial is a semi-gaudy blue sunburst. Sold it a few days after it was delivered. Made a decent profit.

Only two I've tried on because I loved the pics, but didn't like them in person... Tudor Black Bay, and the JLC MUT Moon.

I admire the company for offering inhouse movements at a (relatively) affordable price, but I feel many Nomos watches are guilty of this.
