    Which way would you go?

    Hello Gentlemen,

If you were purchasing a timepiece with the intent of it being passed to your son when he is older, which would you choose?

It has to be approx $4000.00 and stand the test of time.

    Thank you so very much.

Gee, something timeless, classical, readily worn by you to build up 'history' to hand to your son when he's older.

Rolex for me, has always been somewhat timeless, I guess its the design, and the lack of change within the brand.

Most importantly, I know that as a father - you have to love the watch, in order for it to become something special for your son.

I shall repeat my choices from this thread -

I would probably leave out the Wempe. All the other watches I've mentioned are worth it, I think ... future classics, I hope.

I don't even own one but I'd go with Rolex. Around that price it's probably the best known watch and will have the most staying-power. Plus rolex doesn't change its designs much so it will probably still look great decades later.

My $.02 as a guy that seems to own many brands beneath rolex..but just hasn't ponied up for one yet.

If you want your son to think of you and your personality and what type of guy you are, every time he looks at the watch, get a watch you think shows who you are. Rolex is great but is that who "you" are?

Currently I own a Omega Seamaster 300m ( James Bond's Choice ). I purchased it in 2002 and have worn it daily since.

I will do the same with whatever I choose. I have been looking at the Rolex Explorer II White dial, Rolex Submariner no date, IWC Aquatimer 2000, IWC Classic Pilot Chrono, and I also liked the Tag Heuer Grand Carerra 8rs white dial.

I have been thinking about this for a while and now is the time. I just can't figure out what to do.

I think perhaps you're thinking too much about it.

Seems you're intent on buying your son a watch, a watch which you will wear for a while then hand down to him.

Buy yourself a watch - wear it for as long as you want, enjoy it daily....one day, a day of significance perhaps, you will take it from your wrist and give it to your son.
Your son will know how much that watch meant to you, and will take it with pride, no matter what it is.

Remember, buy yourself a watch....buy what you like, like what you buy

This question comes up fairly often.
    Here's another thread on it:
