    Are we all poseurs?

Maybe not all of us, but a bunch of us, right? My Oris diver is rated to 1000M yet it's only been in the ocean a handful of times and never for diving. My Hamilton X-Wind can be used to calculate drift angles due to cross winds but I'm not a pilot and I've never needed that functionality back in the passenger cabin. If they ever announce over the speaker that they need somebody to calculate a drift angle, I suppose I'd be ready but I'd also probably be better served by using the few remaining minutes of my life to say my final good-byes. What do you think about buying watches with purpose-built features with no intention of ever using them?

I have air bags in my car and haven't ever used them. Never hope to either. That doesn't make me a poser.

I don't think air bags is an appropriate comparison because that's something that's in basically all cars. So that's like having hands on a watch.

From a car standpoint, I think it's like buying a 4x4 with a lift kit and off-road tires just to drive on the freeway.

I like having things that inckude options...whether I currenly use or fully understand those things doesn't matter. It's better to have and not need than visa versa.

Hands would also be inaccurate comparison. Without hands a watch cannot function for its intended purpose, to tell time. Without an airbag my car would still function as method of transporting me from place to place. In fact before the early 90s air bags weren't even an option in cars. Plenty of older or classic cars still don't have them.

But to get back on point, no you're not poser.

    You're definitely not a poseur.

    Unless this is you.

Many things we buy in life come with features we don't need or use. How many watches have you seen designed for people who sit in an office and work in front of a computer?

Sorry, Fernando's right -- it's poseur. But don't put me in that category...
