What cheap watch has made you question your more expensive pieces?

    I'm talking cheap.

I just got a used $70 Marina Militare that looks great, and seems to run really well too. Smooth movement.

Yes there are subtleties that make me realize it's a cheaper Chinese watch, like the way it winds and reaches fully wound.

But considering it's all titanium, with a titanium buckle and decent strap (though I'll find something better), there was a moment for me that had me wondering "Did I find a great example?"

I strap on my Speedmaster or Sub-C, and it's obvious they are leagues above when it comes to the final touches.

But I've been very impressed over this ... wow, don't even know the brand name. I think it's a Parnis.

Maybe not question the quality of the more expensive watches, but putting an alternative perpective on things ... I have a quartz jobbie from LLBean that I picked up for about 80 bucks. It sells for about $200, but I got it cheap because the dial and case back had different stated depth ratings ... so, $80.

It reliably gains less than a second a month, and with its tritium hands and markers, is readable under any light conditions. I wear it to bed, and to the movies, and sometimes even sneak it into my suit pocket when I'm wearing a dress watch at the opera or a dark theater. Strictly from a practical standpoint, it's probably the most useful watch I own.

I question buying cheaper watches now because I know I'll probably flip them in the long run.

The whole "I'm getting Brand X's quality for 1/10th of the price" is more often than not a fallacy.
