What Current Watch Will Personify The Current Era of WatchMaking

If you had to pick one watch that will be deemed classic in 30 years (vintage) what would it be. It doesn't have to be an expensive watch or a cheaper one. What are the modern classics basically?

Oyster perpetual as a quintessential classic Rolex

Luminor due as a watch that ruins Panerai

Maybe Tudor Pelagos destro can be an iconic piece too

maybe something from Tudor...they seem real hot right now. I'd say the Apple Watch but it's so disposable.

by "watchmaking" my first thought was the Zenith Defy Lab with the new oscillator or maybe the Panerai Lab-ID Luminor with the lubricant free movement. But I doubt those watches in particular will become vintage collectibles any time soon. They're just interesting new steps in watchmaking which we may see implemented in many other future watches down the road.

If just asking what would become vintage collectibles, that's anyone's wild guess, it's probably best to look at what else became collectible and stick to those brands (ie. Rolex, Omega, and to a lesser extent Seiko). For Rolex, my best guess would be like the SD4000, which was limited in production. Maybe the Tudor Black Bay Black ETA, which was also very limited. The Milgauss will be interesting, especially the black dial non-GV which was out for a while, but I doubt sold too many. Omega, there are some limited edition Speedmasters which could be rare one day (Alaska Project, Snoopy).

    1. Apple Watch (the design is classic, the watches themselves are semi-disposable)
    2. Nomos Tangente
    3. square Casio GShock...classic 35 years ago...classic 30 years on.
