What do people think of the Rado Diastar Split Second?

I saw this watch for about $2,300 new...I think. I love my Diastar 1962 limited edition and thought this might be a nice upgrade. It is only 14mm thick which isn't bad for a "cheap" split second. Are there other cheap or cheaper split second chronos I should consider?

I like the look. The price at full retail is a little more than I'd pay.

Love the diastar, it's so classic and distinctively Rado. The diastar clamshell case design is a strange mix of wierd and wonderful, reminds me of my childhood when my uncle had one.

Personally I think there’s far too much going on for the overall Diastar case/bezel design.

    Split second chronos are good.
    Diastar case/bezel good.

    Together? Not for me.

Been researching a good Rat for a long while and have wanted to add the complication to the collection! I kind of came to the same conclusion. This looks pretty tough to beat unless you can find one of the WUS project watches. I have also looked into the Omega Speedy, which is pretty attractive at around this price +/- ~$1k. Possibly the best alternative because of the brand/model, etc. Doesn't seem to be much interest in this complication. I think it's the coolest and dig it the most!

Good luck and let me know what you find.

I like this particular model. However, those colors make time telling a bit of an adventure in some lighting. I had the divers version in this black/blue color combination and sold it, exactly because if this.

Don't really like the overall look myself--looks kind of "Lost in Space" 60s, rather than "Star Wars" 70s, and "only 14mm thick"?!--that is pretty darn thick--wouldn't spend that kind of money on a watch like that.

Alright, it is an interesting watch but overall not good looking enough. I wish they did it with a more classic Diastar dial.

The last time I checked the famous cheap Split Second, IWC Doppelchronograph, was 17mm thick and uses the same movement....so to me a 3mm reduction in size and an increase in water resistance is an improvement.

Expensive for what it is, but great revivalism of the vintage watches of yore

Looks great, but too busy. It would truly bother me after a while.
