What Do You Look For .....

When you go into a AD? What sort of service do you hope to receive? Do you want to be left alone to browse the available watches? Or do you want hands-on assistance with free Champagne and strawberries?

Ive felt quite uncomfortable at times when all I have wanted to do is browse around. I can feel the eyes piercing through the back of my head!

I suppose that it can be a fine line between being ignored and being pestered in a shop. I like it best when the assistant asks me if I need any help and puts the ball in my court. It's then up to me if I want to browse or investigate further.

Much like a restaurant, I like to be greeted, shown what's what then left alone 'till I am ready. I also like enthusiastic and knowledgable staff who enjoy talking watches outside of any current sales opportunity.

I know a couple of ADs like this. One is happy just to chat and give advice on brands he no longer deals with.

I agree with you OrangeSport. Its like asking in a restaurant about a particular dish and the waiter having no clue. Product knowledge is everything.

Agree with sticky and OrangeSport . . . as an aside, what are thoughts on being "served" something like bottled water, coffee, tea, champagne, etc. I've read (other watch fora) others opine that this is expected and are very disappointed, almost insulted, if that doesn't happen. For the life of me, I just cannot understand that mindset . . .

My primary objective is to handle and try on various watches. I'd estimate I visit ADs at least 30-40 times per year, and I have always been accomodated.

Every salesperson is different in regards to knowledge, pushiness, attitude, etc., but I can easily adapt. I can't recall ever allowing myself to be intimidated by a salesperson.

A very knowledgeable salesperson is always a bonus. I find that they are the least pushy as they understand a watch enthusiast's need to browse (sometimes over several visits).

If I want a watch I go to the AD's but if I want feeding I can call next door at the KFC place.

I am rarely offered anything, but certainly don't expect it and rarely even accept it when offered. I think I once accepted an espresso, and only because I forgot to have one after lunch.
