    What do you think?

    I sold 3 affordables so that I can buy one higher price piece. I don't own a Swiss watch so that would be nice and it must be able to fit under the cuff of a dress shirt. I can do one of two things: I can get a dressy diver OR go with a dress watch i.e. leather band, elegant 3 hand dial, thin, etc.

    I don't want to go over $500 but I may consider stretching the budget a little or waiting and saving up if need be.

    I'm really tempted by these two at mrwatch.com -

    Tissot Seastar 1000 (2011 edition) on rubber for $515.99 Tissot Men's T066.407.17.057.00 Black Rubber Automatic Watch with Black Dial

    And on a bracelet for $555.99 Tissot Men's T066.407.11.057.00 Silver Stainless-Steel Swiss Quartz Watch with Black Dial

    The little bit of research I've done says that this is a great price to buy it at and it seems to meet my criteria but I don't know much about this watch and I'm not familiar with the website.

    What do you guys think?

    $500 for a quartz watch would be a no-go for me... There's definitely nothing wrong with the Seastar. Others will be able to advise about other affordable divers. Seiko Sumo comes to mind although this still may be a tad over budget.

    $500 in a dress watch will land a Tissot Visodate or Seiko SARB series, or some Hamilton offerings.

    Re: What do you think?

    I should've been specific, I prefer automatics! I might start a fight but I don't see the big deal with the Sarb. Maybe I'm missing something...

    I love what the Sumo looks like on a Yobokies Beads of Rice but I'm not completely sold.

    Anyhow, wouldn't a Swiss watch have more cache with the non-WIS crowd?

    $500 on the grey market will get you damn close to an Orient Mako (diver) AND a dressy offering from either Hamilton, Tissot, or Orient...all in automatic form.

    Re: What do you think?

    I appreciate your suggestions Roller.959, they are very good ideas but part of the reason I sold my 3 affordables is because I didn't feel they were getting enough wrist time. I'd rather not have a watch sit around if I don't get to use it regularly. I'd really like to consolidate even if it means saving for a few months and buying something more expensive that I get to wear to work several times a week.

    Dressy = Hamilton Intra-Matic
    Diver = Seiko Sumo

    Look at some of the offerings from Christopher Ward as well.

    Re: What do you think?

    If I was looking to buy a watch in the price range, I'd go for the G. Gerlach M/S Batory big date, but then again I just saw one the other day and have been a little obsessed :D

    If I was going for a Tissot it would be the Visodate or leLocle automatic. Hamilton, it would be a Jazzmaster.

    For a diver, Seiko hands down if you find a model you like.

    Re: What do you think?

    I got to say that G. Gerlach is a pretty interesting suggestion and I think that the Christoper Ward Watches are very pretty. I felt like the Seastar offer above was too good to pass up. I bought the bracelet version and hope I really like it.

    I'll post a picture when I get it. Thank you for all the good suggestions.

    If I was you I would get a Visodate.
