What does Heritage mean anyway?

Not the actual dictionary definition. In watches, with every other watch company calling a model or two this or that heritage... What does the term even mean anymore and do you think its so over used that you shy away from such watches?

Yup. If Tudor or Omega bring out a new version of a watch they made in the 60s and 70s and want to call it a Heritage model, I have no problem with that. Or if Rolex, PP, or Seiko talk about their long watchmaking heritage, that's fine (even if the company has undergone changes in ownership while in continuous existence).

But if someone buys the rights to an old defunct manufacturer's name and slaps that name on new schlock made in China, the use of the word "heritage" is completely bogus -- e.g., Elgin, Waltham, Ingersoll.

Here's a thread on the topic: https://www.watchuseek.com/f2/watch-brand-history-resurrection-563313.html

And an interesting NY Times article: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/06/fashion/bringing-old-watch-brands-out-of-obscurity.html
