    What does "XL" mean?

I'm interested in buying this Lorus watch on Amazon UK:
Lorus Classic Quartz Analog Men's Watch XL Leather RT341DX9: Amazon.co.uk: Watches

its listed as "XL". Does that mean Extra Large or Extra Long?

Looking at the product specifications, the case size is 43mm (which I believe is a fairly average size for a watch) and the band length says "standard". So I'm confused to what the XL means.

    Please enlighten me :) thanks!

Most Lorus men's watches tend to be in the 36-40 mm range, so I'd hazard a guess that this is "Extra Large" for them.

I've been scratching my head at this too when looking at the Amazon(.de) watch section. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with being "extra large".and I just reckoned it stands for some meaningless marketing thing like "exclusive", kind of like all watch bracelets on amazon.de are stated as being "hochwertig".

It means "Extra Large" ("X" instead of "E" because it's EXTREME!)

Anyways, it usually refers to the case diameter. And if there's an XL version, that usually means there's also a smaller version.

What Domo said holds true, I know, for Christopher Ward. IIRC their typical size is 36-37 mm. They've got a variant they call Big Dial, IIRC, which is 40. There were several comments along the lines of "they call that BIG?" :)

I don't really know what would be considered 'average size' for sure. I prefer smaller, but I have a small wrist. Still, when browsing sites like Brathwait and Christopher Ward, which include several model shots...they both use 40 mm, and that size fills up their models' wrists. OK, so they're male Euromodel yuppy types. :) And not commonly with large wrists. Still, that size occupies those wrists rather extensively. And in general, considering timepiece watches (as opposed to fashion-statement watches)...I'd say 38 to 41 mm is fairly common, and 43 would be drifting into a large size.

Thanks for all the replies guys! This definitely helped me understand it a lot better. I always thought XL watches were more on the 45-50mm range, thanks for explaining!

That's what she said....... Someone had to bring this down to a juvenile level. Fortunately that happens to be one of my specialties.

extra large in my opinion. But 43mm isn't that big comparing to a Rolex Explorer for example.

As best I can tell this watch comes on a 220mm strap which is a large to standard length so I reckon the XL bit is just marketing hype.
