What Just Came In: Grand Seiko SBGR097 Limited Edition
The SBGR097 limited edition is the first of three new models to use the new 9S61 movement. This movement is part of the 9R6X family but for the first time, at least in an automatic version, you can have it without a date. These new models, the SBGR097, SBGR099 and SBGR101 (blue, white and black) are in a slightly larger than usual 42mm case, but nothing will capture your attention more than the beautiful textured dial of this SBGR097. It’s not only a mesmerizing hue, but it also features a gorgeous repeating GS pattern. Textured dials like this one are one of the reasons Grand Seiko is so revered, and upon seeing a prototype earlier this year, I said it was the best new Grand Seiko of 2015, a claim I still stand by. Unfortunately, only 500 were made, so these may be difficult to get. For those lucky enough to have find one, however, they will have not only arguably the best looking Grand Seiko of the year, but a little piece of GS history thanks to that 9S61 movement.
