    What is "time" anyway?

Time is an illusion. All time is relative to your position with other celestial bodies in the universe, how rapidly you move towards, away from, or pass by, another planet or star.

We are all dead the moment we are born.

We only perceive our lives as being very long because of this illusion.

Now, with all that being said, what is your watch actually measuring?

It's an excuse to look at my watch.

Taking a step back from your esoteric to my practical; I make my living billing clients in 6 minute increments. That's what my watch measures.

No need to get overly philosophical about the nature of time. Unless you're planning to do some traveling near the speed of light or you plan to explore states of matter past an event horizon.

First, that depiction of a black hole is a mathematical error. Only for movies.

Second, time is something used to track history and perhaps remind one of future events.

Time is worth measuring because it's the most important and limited resource we have in our life.

you can be a douche about it (you're bringing it up in a forum dedicated to tiny marvels of engineering) and copy/paste obscure passages from the internet... or since you're getting older and things are happening to you in a cycle you can simply admit that time does exist in our 3 dimensional world (with time being the 4th dimension), and applaud and marvel at how 300 very tiny pieces of various alloys can keep track of the daily cycle that affects your life.

Don't pretend you know what your talking about when referring to an 'event horizon' like really?? And no, one cannot communicate in morse code by using the hands of a watch from signals transmitted from the fifth dimension

"Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so". I think the hitchhikers got it right....
