What type of watch crown do you prefer ?

I prefer my watches to have screw crowns they seem easier to reset. Does anyone know if there are disadvantages to the various types of crowns?

    Screw down.

Its simple and highly effective. I keep seeing hideous "steampunk" style crown sealing systems on watches like Panerai, TW Steel and U Boat.

    Why do they bother?
    • I currently own 6 Rolex watches, from a new Submariner Ceramic to a 1963 Oysterdate Precision.
    • I have continuously owned Rolex watches for over 37 years, starting with a GMT M in 1980.
    • I have owned 12 Omegas, from a 1939 30T2 to a Seamaster 200.
    • I own 2 Seiko Divers, owning one since 1979.

    I post from actual experience.

Agree whole heartedly with the traditional screw down type. The style of crowns on U boat seem to be too much of a hassle and ruin the look I feel. Since I have a tendency to do more then sit at a desk, I don’t feel that a non locking crown gives enough protection

On quartz and auto, I generally prefer screw-down. On manual I prefer push-pull. I'm not a fan of the lever like on Panerai, for looks if nothing else!

Depends on the watch. If it isn't a diver I have no problems with a non screw down crown.

Screw down just like most of us here... I know it's not needed on non-diving watches but it's still cool. Like those vintage 1950s Rolexes and Tudors...

My preference is for snap crowns as they are easier to open and provide more than enough moisture resistance for any of my daily activities. Threaded crowns can wear out or cross thread.

Screw down obviously has advantages in protection, but I wish they'd do away with signed crowns and just leave them plain. Most are ugly and the orientation is always random when they're screwed in. The nicest signed crowns I have are some of the ones on my JDM Seikos with the 'S' deeply etched or machined in.

Whatever type of crown is fine for me, but it must be signed with the brand logo.

Screwdown, unless it's a manual wind. Had a hand cranker with a screwdown crown and the damn thing broke in days.

How did it get so late so soon?
