What watch to buy my wife?

In celebration of a personal achievement by my wife, I am looking to gift a watch to her. Her only two watches at this moment are Michael Kors brand, which she likes, and although she is not a watch enthusiast by any measure (did I mention she owns Michael Kors), she has expressed interest in a Shinola Runwell (with a tan/white dial), though as a Shinola Runwell owner myself, I am hesitant to go down that path and would like to do something different only because I have somewhat soured on Shinola. The only question is, what to get instead. She is 5'10, athletic, and I am looking for a watch that can be worn on the daily and can be had for less than $2,000 (preferably new, but used is acceptable). It can be mechanical/automatic or quartz and leather straps are preferable.

I have considered the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date, Nomos Orion, Omega Aqua Terra, and Weiss. Any assistance is much appreciated, although you can save yourself the time and not bother with a Cartier Tank recommendation.

Take your wife shopping and let her select the watch she likes best.

She will do a better job than you or a bunch of strangers on the internet.

You have some really great options already picked out! I love the Oris and have been considering getting one myself but with the Alpinist itís hard for me to justify such a similar watch in my collection. Also, you can never go wrong with Omega.

Iíd like to add the Hamilton Khaki Navy Pioneer as it has the Shinola look to it and Iíve always been impressed with my Hammyís. Thereís lots of different variants in these with both larger and smaller sizes.

Iíd also like to add a favorite from my personal collection that I just purchased not too long ago. The Stowa Partitio. Iím also 5í10 and with 6.5ish wrist this one fits me like a glove. It also looks great with just about any strap I put on it. Being a handwinder, I just make sure to wind it every other day (takes no more than 30sec) and itís been extremely accurate.

Good luck! And let us know what you decide!

The Breitling Galactic was discontinued in March 2018. There are very nice versions of the Galactic in 30mm, 32mm, 36mm, 41mm, and 44mm. A quick search shows me that there are still some floating around out there at quite a savings.

Assistance? Ask your wife for assistance. Buying a watch for someone else and basing it's virtues on other peoples opinions is a recipe for disappointment.

I bought my wife a Cartier Tank that she loves to this day. It was our 10th anniversary and we spent it at Las Ventanas in Cabo. Whatever you you choose, I am sure she will love it. We are going on 20 years, so guess I did something right along the way. She still remarks about much she loves the watch and me. I still blush.

Jomashop has a 34mm Tudor Genieve automatic date just for $1795. You might be able to buy it from an AD for a little more.
