What Watch is Overpriced but you Want it/Bought it Anyway?

We always hear about "value" here in the threads as it relates to Oris, Damasko and others, but what about if You just like a watch enough not to care so much about the price?

This thread may not apply to those who think All watches are over-priced.

I really like the Sinn T2 but feel it's somewhat over-priced at $3,160. I realize it has some nice features but that's my take on it.

    Tag Heuer Autavia is $5,150

What watches do you think are overpriced but want them anyway?

Re: What Watch is Overpriced but you Want it/Bought it Anyway?

When you look at watches that cost under $800 that have ETA automatic movements and some with similar engines that cost thousands, one has to wonder where the value is. Does the level of fit and finish warrant thousands more? Hardly, however, the law of diminishing returns exists with all hard products.

This one, although no longer in the stable, comes to mind, however, it was a must buy due to its aesthetic appeal.

When I read your first line my heart rate doubled! Limited to 500 pieces correct? I'm assuming the water-indicator works and is not just decorative?

Congrats...and a little more than a little jealous.

IWC Portuguese. There’s a hefty brand premium but, damn, it’s a good looking watch!

All the watches besides basic Casios and Seiko 5s are IMO overpriced.

    But I buy them nevertheless.

Re: What Watch is Overpriced but you Want it/Bought it Anyway?

As timekeepers, every mechanical watch is overpriced.

Joking aside, I don't think any Rolex offers a particularly good value anymore, as long as you are buying a watch to keep (rather then re-sell). There are watches that offer comparable if not better movements, fit and finish, and design aesthetics for half the price. With that said, Rolex's durability is pretty legendary, and their market cachet (and hence, resale value) is pretty much unrivaled. So perhaps they're still good to "lease" (i.e. buy and flip).

IMO Others that don't seem to offer much bang for the buck include modern Longines (a pale imitation of its former self), Tag Heuer, and Seiko presages that cost more than $500.
