What is your thoughts on high end quartz movement?

My wife and I are shopping for a pair of “couple watch” to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We are set on a pair of black dial Royal Oak in 41mm and 33mm. Reference number 15400 and 67650. As you all know the the 33mm Royal Oak only comes in with quartz movement, what are your thoughts on this particular watch? Can high end quartz movement like this one last for decades? How to go about maintain the watch and keeping it last for a long time. Is it sacrilegious to buy a $10,000 quartz watch?

No seconds hand so no tick, not bad. If you can afford it, why not?

High end quartz movement, properly maintained should last for a long, long time. Perhaps may not be as long as its mechanical counterpart, but no high servicing cost as well.

Personally, I would not worry too much about an AP quartz movement.

Saying that, however, if buying second hand/pre-owned, you may want double check, make sure there are no issues with the movement.

Anyway, great idea (and watch!) for a his and a hers, best of luck ~

Last for decades? Probably, with AP you can more or less trust them to stay around. Mechanical watches can be difficult to service too, if the manufacturer goes belly up.

Personally, I have high end quartz pieces, but I wouldn't buy one unless it has other really interesting features, but that's just me. If you're set on the combo and feel happy about it, what's the difference between the watch being driven by a battery or a spring?

Personally I like high-end quartz movements, but I don't think it's a good investment as service cost and replacement parts would be astronomical.

If you want to keep a watch for 20 years or longer, go mechanical.

Quartz without service can go 20 years running or more while still maintain excellent time keeping. Mechanical watch while still can keep running for 20 years without service but unlikely still can keep COSC spec.

Quartz are design to be maintenance free beside a simple batt change very few years.

If you are willing to pay that much then it is worth it. I for one would not for a "quartz" watch.

You are right, but not all quartz watches will past the 20 years mark smoothly as there are many factors to consider.

Will the manufacturer still be in the business in 20 years? Will you be financially capable to afford a complete service when the time comes?

Not for AP or Citizen. They exist for 100 years. Very unlikely, they will fold up in next 20 years time. Plus, quartz movement are supposed to be very robust and stable. I have a owned a few quartz vintage Tag running on the same ETA calibre and still keep excellent time. They are produced in the early 90s.
