What's the most you would spend on one watch (realistic bandings)

    Hi All,

Our friend WatchingWatch posted a similar poll recently but I think most of us agreed that the bandings were too narrow and too low in order for the responses to indicate anything meaningful. Seeing as the WatchingWatch never reposted or edited the poll I thought I would have another go and see if it brings up any meaningful results.

I would like the responses to be realistic. You might not be able to afford your top price right now - but you have to be confident that if you did have the funds you would buy at this top price (in other words no "if I won the lottery I would spend" responses).

    I'll post my response later.

The poll is in US Dollars.

    Regards,

First number that comes into my head is ฃ12,000.
Knowing me though, that probably means it wouldn't take too much to stretch that to ฃ15,000.

Not sure if there are actually any watches that I like in that price bracket though but that seems like an acceptable figure to me for a one off extravagance/indulgence.

I'm not sure if you have voted yet or not but please remember that the poll is in US Dollars (for the benefit of the majority of the readership).

I replied before you had the poll up.

That does also bring up an important factor here, which is that there is a difference in spending and earning power between the US and the UK.
I mean, ฃ12,000 is almost $20,000 but they might not actually be equal.
ฃ15,000 is no small sum in the UK but is it really the same as $25,000 in the US?

Maybe - maybe not. It's irrelevant really as anyone outside of the US just needs to think about how much they would spend in their own country and then convert their currency into US Dollars.

Re: What's the most you would spend on one watch (realistic bandings)

In 2012 dollars I would try to keep a watch purchase under $20K but for any intelligent reason I can't say. Once I start gazing at those pieces I look again and quietly murmur "steel" to myself. Then I get well below $10K.

    I chose $12.5K to $17.5K.

I generally prefer quartz and frankly, as much as I like watches, I can think of about a thousand better uses for large sums of money than overpriced dude jewelry. I put $1-2k but I honestly don't see myself spending more than $500 on any particular watch in the foreseeable future.

I could go between 25K and 35K for a multi complication, S/s cased ALS.
That would be the ultimate buy for me and after that I would only buy vintages.
