Where have all the watch brands gone

I remember when I first got into watches back in the early 90's, I used to watch different shows on TV selling new watches, there was also TV shows doing estate sales selling preowned luxury watches. I remember some of these shows used to sell brands like Xemex, Ventura, Kobold, Limes, and Anonimo. I remember on watch forums brands like Stowa, RGM and a few others were very popular, I rarely even see mention of these brands on this forum, very rarely. The one that kind of shocked me was Kobold, I wonder when James Gandolfini who was the products front man passed away and the end of the Sopranos killed the popularity of this particular brand.

I liked both Xemex and Ventura and came close to buying both these brands sorry I didn't.

Owned a couple of Ventura's "The world on time" I believe was their slogan. Cool company but alas no more.

I think Kobold had plenty of 'issues', notwithstanding the sad passing of James Gandolfini. There's plenty of info about the company on other forums which I won't link here. If you search for 'Kobold watches controversy' there's some interesting reading out there.

Stowa aren't still popular in internet forums?

As for Kobold, didn't know they had gotten into troubles.

I knew about this brand because I remember in Hawaii 5.0 TV series McGarrett used to wear a Kobold at first, then he later on became an IWC ambassador. But I think Chin Ho Kelly still wears it.

If you go back in history to the first industrial watch "brands" in the mid 19th century, you won't be able to count how much have disappeared ;)

Well that was an unexpected tangent. Thanks for the suggestion.

Stowa has its own forum on WUS, so I'd say it's slightly more than rarely mentioned.
