Who has bought watches for their children

So this last Christmas (2016 not 2017) I thought it would be a good idea to buy my five year old son a watch. We got him a cheap $8 Paw Patrol digital watch but even for a child's watch his wrists were too small. He is now six and half years old. he caught me looking at g-shocks online the other day and joined in. He saw a lot of watch that "really look cool" and wants one now. I'm not ready to buy him a g-shock just yet but was thinking about maybe getting him something when he's seven.<br>

Are any of your young children into watches or have you bought them one?

My Daughter got into watches pretty young when I bought her a Flik Flak (Swatch). She is now 12 and has the Flik Flak, two G-shocks and a proud dad.

I haven't bought any watches for my daughter, but she has "acquired" most of my starter fashion watches. When she's a little older (only 3 years old now), I'll explain that she doesn't want Invicta or Kenneth Cole; she wants Omega and JLC. To her credit, she will walk around all day with that Invicta strapped to her wrist.

Have bought my 14 year old several watches over the years, but he won't wear them.

I bought my stepson an F-91w. He picked it out. He has since acquired a cheap nato strap for it.

Re: Who has bought watches for their children

My daughters, 10 and 12 love my two Omegas and have both been wearing simple kids watches for some time. My older daughter got accepted to the grammar school she really wanted in September last year so we went together to choose a new watch to mark the occasion. She went with a quartz Tissot PR100 titanium which she loves because 'it's proper grown up' and she wears it every day. The 100m water resistance means it doesn't have to come off for the pool and she was made up with the nice packaging and the fact that it's made of special metal. Gave me the chance to be science Dad and talk about alloys.

My 10 year old regularly wants to try on my Speedmaster on NATO and I let her wear it in the supermarket one day. She was very pleased and when she thought I wasn't noticing would happily look at it. A guy noticed her smiling down proudly at 'her' big watch and said "nice watch kid". She looked up with a big smile and said "thanks .... it's an Omega!" as if it was the most normal thing, though I need to stress not in any pretentious or precocious way. I was a few metres away so he didn't see that I was with her so I could just quietly suppress my laughter at his surprise and inability to compute why there was a 10 year old girl standing beside the cheese counter wearing an Omega Speedmaster :)

A couple years ago, I bought $5 eBay watches for small grandkids. They didn't wear them much, but for the prices and huge number of options, you can't go wrong. Whatever super hero or cartoon character they're into has a cheap watch.
