Who uses the chronograph function on the watch?

I've been wanting a chronograph for a long time, but I'm not so sure anymore. I don't think I'd ever use the watch as it was intended.

Most buy them just for the 'look'.

Many of us could say the same of our dive watches, or our aviator watches. It's just a style. If you like it, get one.

You're right. I'm wearing a dive watch now actually. I wear it when it rains though, if that counts.

Re: Who uses the chronograph function on the watch?

I use mine when my football team are winning and the clock is running down!

I use mine when I have a meeting with staff and I have a busy day.

I also use mine to time how long I like to boil my eggs!

In addition I think they look nice.

I doubt most people use divers for diving and aviator watches for flying? How popular is the Navitmer? I doubt 99% of people know what a slide rule is - let alone use the feature? I also have a moon phase. Unless I turn into a werewolf or decide to catch fish for a living I doubt this will matter much to me either.

I bought a quartz Seiko chrono specifically for the chrono function. I work in a hospital and occasionally find myself bedside without a stopwatch, administering tests to patients that require timing. I have used a second hand in a pinch, but prefer something more concrete.

I time my breaks and lunches at work. So, I use it.

Re: Who uses the chronograph function on the watch?

I timed how long I grilled my steaks the other day...

And last month I timed my commute on the bus...

Right now, I'm timing how long it takes me to write this response.

OTOH: Haven't got a clue how to use the slide rule - haven't gotten around to reading the instructions it came with.
