Why Do You Wear a Watch?

Thanks to cell phones, the need for the wrist watches for only telling the time becomes les and less important, I personally wear automatic watches because I love the idea carrying a mechanical marvel attached to me ticking, all the springs and wheels getting life from my movements, living with me in synergy, I guess this is like a Japanese Tamagotchi virtual electronic pet toy you feed and care. I also enjoy watching the mechanism perfectly splitting up the time in pieces. Even thinking of the mechanism of a mechanical watch is a mesmerizing, hypnotizing thought to me, which you might find weird.

So why are you wearing a watch? If you have another reason from only time telling please speak up.

    Male jewellery. Interesting looking tech.
Plus my mobile phone is on the desk, far away from my work chair.

Because my wrist doesn't feel right without one. But I actually use my watch to tell the time. It is a lot quicker and easier to flick my wrist to see the time than it is to pull my cellphone out of my pocket.

    1) Sense of security; it's nice having something with weight to it on your wrist :)

    2) The second sweep makes it feel like time goes by faster. I end up feeling less impatient

Re: Why Do You Wear a Watch?

so I can look sexy while finding out the time ... and hopefully attract a few members of the opposite sex

but mostly so I can tell the time, in the manner and quickness I prefer

actually, at my last job where I had to teach, there was no clock in the room ... so a watch was pretty much essential,

in order to know the time, I could
    A) go out to the hallway and squint at the far wall to see the time
    B) ask the students ... hopefully one of them is wearing a watch (but everytime I do this, somehow the time ran faster than I thought ... must be my imagination)
    C) whip out my cell phones ... sometime I had to dig it out from my tight jeans
    D) glance at my wrist

do tell me, which one of those choices wont make you look unprofessional

so in a way, I'm using wristwatches to tell me the time ...

buying watches is another matter ~ I agree with what the OP said about it being a mechanical marvel, and I am somewhat of a collector,
just like to collect things ... that are cool

I don't feel right without a wristwatch on!! I have always worn one and I will always wear one. I have lived many years when cell phones did not exist so a wrist watch or a pocket watch was an important tool. Not so much these days and especially since I am retired and I don't need to be anywhere on time. I love watches and I wear one everyday except to bed and in the shower.
