Why i'd never buy an imitation watch

People love the speedmaster and if it's too expensive might want to buy an imitation like this.

But when someone says 'wow is that a speedmaster' you end up looking sheepish and saying 'no actually it's just a knockoff I bought on the internet'. I realise lots of watches are based on iconic watchs like the submariner etc.

I definitely agree with this on principle, but sometimes it is just more practical to purchase a Steinhart than an actual Rolex. (Just an example) Obviously the Rolex is of higher quality, but not all of us can afford the cost of a luxury watch. So for those of us on a budget, we can get the style that we envy even though we don't get the brand name. On the other hand, there are a lot of budget friendly and high quality watches that take hints from luxury watches. They are also good place holders, if you are saving for a big purchase it might quench your thirst for a while until you buy a look alike while saving. I totally agree though, if you have the coin better to get the real deal.

I think people should buy what they like and what makes them happy. For me, I'd rather have a unique watch that I could afford, rather than a homage to something I cannot afford.

You don't tell them it's not an Omega, you tell them it's a Cjiaba, the Ukranian Poljot, which is the Russian Rolex, so it's basically only two removed from being a Daytona. Sheesh.

yea,but if you kept on buying fakes then it'll take you forever to save enough $$$ to buy the real thing.

I personally would never knowingly buy an imitation, not so much because I might get caught out by someone else, but more because the only person I'd really be trying to fool is myself.

I thought almost all watches below 3000 dollars MSRP are design replicas of higher priced originals.

When someone says 'wow is that a speedmaster'; I look at them and say: "Why yes, it is!"

How about a homage from Seiko?

It's a functional chrono and not too bad looking.
