Why would anybody pay that much for a Seiko? Much less a quartz?

This hobby of ours..is a strange and particular one.
    So many quirks..so many nuances.
I find myself having 'daring' enough tastes...yet I have the most boring of brands (mikeyrolex anyone?)

    Grand Seiko. So polarizing.
Grand Seiko quartz? What the heck...? Why would anybody pay that much for a Seiko? Much less a quartz?
Yet...the ownership of a GS..especially a GS quartz...is one that defines this crazy hobby of ours for me.
Wearing this new arrival...looking at it in different lights...

Owning a GS is about accepting & loving the timepiece as a whole. Its not about the movement...the fit...finishing...the name...the value anymore.
I stare at it...not to look at the time..or admire the different contours and edges on it..or to look at the hands moving..
I can't stop looking because it is that alluring. I am paying that much..because it is a damn good watch...and a very fine looking...shall I say it..beautiful timepiece.

Great pics. Outside of a few vintage pieces and a JLC or two, this might be the best looking diver I've seen. If they could just add a darn date it would be on my want list. Oh and while they're adding a date, smaller would be nice, not all of us have 9 inch wrists!

Thumbs Up Re: Why would anybody pay that much for a Seiko? Much less a quartz?

    Mmmm....look at that dial.

if we had to single out one single thing GS is the true champ for , punching well above their price point, its their dials. Intricate pieces of art designed to mesmerize and draw one's attention hour after hour. And what's even better, unlike other watches, GS's look even better in the flesh than in photos, constantly revealing another facet, another sheen, keeping the owner in sheer awe.

    JDM FTW

My 2 ultimate grails are VFM and TOTC.
A good read is like medicine for the brain.

Because you want and you can. That simple.

    By the way, nice watch!

    ER.MAH.GERD.

That is an amazing watch Doc. Give me that over the SBGA029/031 ANY day. What a winner!! Congratulations!

Where's our case-back and bracelet and clasp shots? Hmmmmm????

How's the screw-down on that one? My SBGX091 (only other quartz with a screw down) has a very short travel screw - only about 1.5-2 revolutions locks it, compared to the SD and hi-beat that take at least 3.

    Casebacks and clasp pics...roger that!

I did notice the crown has a short screw revolution! It locks in very satisfyingly and is quite clean when unscrewing as well.

There is a very slight wobble on the minute hand when setting the time.
They reach way way out to the minute markers.
No stutter on the seconds hand obviously.

    Other observations:
Crystal and lume pip sits under the bezel line.
The bezel numerals are evenly applied. I find the angled numerals quite attractive and fitting actually.
The seconds hand is very well designed..great length and the lollipop counter is totally fun.

I'll confess to not being a fan of the toolishness of GS divers. However, it does appear to be a very well-finished piece. That bracelet looks epic - how does it compare to your other bracelets? (trying not to mention the R word )

Great pics Mike! I'm very glad GS has finally broken through on the aesthetic front with this diver. Enjoy!
