    Wrist Size

    Hi,
I just recently had a long time jeweler tell me that the “average” men’s wrist size is 8”. That he rarely has had men with smaller wrists than that.

This has to be wrong in my opinion. What do you think? Many brands’ standard bracelets don’t even accommodate an 8” wrist. Is this guy just mistaken or am I?

    Thanks

The west is getting fatter but i doubt the average wrist size is 8 inches yet.

    Re: Wrist Size

I would be stunned if the average American male had a wrist circumference of 8" or more.

Doubt it. He might be working with a non representative sample group.

Agreed with most. No way that’s correct.

Looks like average is around 7.25" according to what I can find from a few sources. Common misconception though is that your wrist size varies a lot depending on your weight, or that it's linked to your height somehow.

I did a lot of research a few years ago since I was getting frustrated with so many watches not quite fitting, turns out my wrist size of 8" is near the top end of the bell curve. Wrist size is mainly determined by frame size, with exceptions at the extremes ( yes, gain 250 pounds and your wrist will get bigger). I'm 5'10" and about 190 lbs, so large than average for someone of my height but not excessively so. My wrist size is the same as a friend of mine who's 6 foot and 325 ( and he's not fat).

Easy way to tell is wrap your fingers around your wrist. If your thumb and middle finger barely touch, your medium frame. If they overlap, small frame. Or if they don't touch, like mine, large frame. Always exceptions of course, but seems to hold true mostly. Made sense in my case since my shirt size through the chest is larger than normal as well.

    Re: Wrist Size

A chart showing the occurrence of wrist sizes amongst 1563 watchblog reading respondents:

    Name: average-wrist-size-for-a-man-600x368.png
Views: 59
Size: 19.9 KB

    https://theslenderwrist.com/average-...ize-for-a-man/

You could show the chart to the jeweler (if he gave you the feeling he would deserve that). If you'd want a discount from him in the future, or maybe simply like the man: maybe do not show the chart. (edit: I now think this sounds a bit weird, but English is not my first language so I don't know how to say it less quirky.)

    Re: Wrist Size

I think the jeweler is wrong, but it depends on his customers /target audience.
My wrists are actually 8'', and I have to get extra long straps (which are difficult to find... I think that says something about averages)
