    WUS causing IE to close

    Hi

Not sure if anyone can help. Certain threads on WUS are causing my browser to close. Running IE6, Win XP.

This thread (and most others) are fine: https://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?t=55809

This one however causes a close: https://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?t=55648

Even some of the threads I created myself cause it so I'm condident it's not malicious code.

(NB: Please don't tell me to "buy a Mac" and/or use Firefox etc - it's boring.)

    Cheers.

Re: WUS causing IE to close

Just tested all the links with my IE 6(not my default browser), everything works fine.

However, I think this site is experiencing some technical issues of late.

Sometimes I get a page which states "The server is too busy. Try again later".

Sometimes post disappear from threads in the "hybrid/threaded" display mode window. What's the difference between hybrid and threaded, anyway?

I think there's one other issue, but I can't remember what it is.

    Hmm, must be my installation.

I have IE7 (SP2) sitting on my desktop, ready to install - should I just go do it?

    Hi -

No problems here as well, but I'm on WinXP Home and Firefox 2.0.0.3.

Might be boring, but I stopped use IE 4 years ago and never looked back. I have too many bookmarks to put up with IE's brain dead bookmark management...

You've got a couple options, depending on how computer savvy your are.

First, make sure you have up to date antivirus/spyware software and
    run full scans.

    Use this free utility CCleaner
to clean up all the "crap" on your computer.
Run both System Cleanup and then Scan for Issues.
    Scan for issues twice.

    Reboot

The next thing is to get Windoze to check for some bad (corrupt) system files. Do this by going to...

Start Menu > Run > and type in "sfc /scannow" (no quotes) and hit OK

Make sure that you have your Windoze installation CD handy because it
will ask for it if it needs to re-install any corrupt system files.
This can take a little time so be patient and don't leave it to go watch TV.

After running sfc /scannow, Reboot and go to M$ and check for updates.
Install any and all high priority updates.

If this fails to work you really need to re-install you Windows Operating System.

This often sounds traumatic but I do it periodically just to keep
    things nice and tidy.
I like a lean and clean machine.
You would be greatly surprised at all the crap you accumulate on your computer.
C(rap)Cleaner is great and regular use will help keep your system clean.
Use the Options to keep the "cookies" that you don't want to lose.

    Good luck,
    J.

*edit* People, please always keep your browser updated. IE7 has been out for quite some time.
Your browser is your lifeline here in cyber space.

the Duke really recommends FireFox. Vastly superior to IE. (please no flame war)

I get weird ones like this all the time (I am a sys admin, 600+ PC's locked down tight with Group Policies, no admin users on the network). Usually the fastest solution is to backup all your docs/favorites and flat line it with a clean windoze install. Otherwise you could spend hours and hours trying to find the problem

We had a rash of strange things after the DST time zone patch too...

    Good luck!

    Best regards,
    Griff
