Yet Another This vs That Thread!

I feel almost apologetic for starting another this watch vs that thread, but feel that the subsequent discussion may help me decide. The final decision is obviously mine.

One of these two watches will likely be my next purchase:

    Contestant 1 - Grand Seiko SBGW031

    Case: SS Dial: White
Crystal: Box sapphire with non-reflection coating
Diameter: 36 mm (without the crown)
    Thickness: 11.6 mm Weight: 61 g
    Movement: 9S64
    Power reserve: 72Hrs.
    Accuracy: +5/-3 sec/day
3 ATM water resistance, See-through back

    Hands
    steel, tempered blue

Pictures and info mostly from the Nomos website.

I have never seen the Grand Seiko in person - it does not seem to be imported into the US, but have tried the Ludwig on my wrist at an AD, and do own a Nomos Orion.

    My current watch collection includes:
Nomos Orion 35 - love it!
Hamilton Intra-matic 38 in both Gold and SS finish
Longines La Grande Classique 34mm Automatic (Roman numerals - 2 hands)
    Seiko SARB017 Alpinist - meh
Junghans Max Bill 34 handwind on the "hearing aid" beige strap - like it a lot
    Seagull 1963 Chrono
    Omega Seamaster 1950s dress watch
Seiko SNK80x Fliegers - Love em!
    Stowa Antea Small Seconds
    Seiko SKX013 diver
Various somewhat "dressy" Seiko 5s remounted on cheap leather straps - Like em a lot!
Cheap, small, Quartz Seiko homage to the Cartier Tank - like it a lot
Hamilton Khaki Field 38mm handwind (both colors) and automatic - meh, specially the automatic, double meh

I realize the final decision is mine but wanted to poll the forum and get your input.

Grand seiko for me. I don't like wire lugs so it's not a fair contest but even if I did, I think I'd still say the GS

I voted other, since I'd much rather choose the Grand Seiko Diashock SBGR095.

I see what you did there!

I am not a huge fan of metal bracelets. My first action when receiving a watch on a bracelet is to remount it on a leather strap if it is dressy, or a leather strap or rarely a NATO strap if sporty.

I would still get it for the blued hand and ivory dial and put it on leather. In any case, I prefer the 031 over the Nomos. The Nomos is very nice, but although beautiful in its simplicity I do find the Bauhaus aesthetic to be somewhat cold. The GS case with all of its curves and facets and the extra dimension of the box sapphire is more enticing to me. I also have a preference for central seconds.

Plus, there is almost 30 hours extra power reserve!

I love both brands but I'd pick the Grand Seiko here in a heart beat.

I voted GS, but you may also like this Chr Ward with 5 day power reserve.
