    Good evening everyone,

Been searching for my first good quality watch for the last few months, trying to keep it under $500.

A watch that has really caught my eye is the Tissot Visodate. It’s got what I’m looking for: automatic moment, sapphire crystal, skeleton back, and it’s simple but beautiful.

The reviews online seem to indicate that the watch is well put together, and a great watch in the sub $1K range.

However, I would like to hear some of the opinions here on WUS. Let me know your thoughts on this watch!

Some other watches I’m looking at are the Oris Big Crown Date, Oris Aquis Date, Junghans Max Bill Auto (nearly impossible to find used in my price range) and a few Alpinas. Would love to hear some opinions on these as well, and if either of them would be a better choice in terms of quality then the Visodate.

P.s. I plan on wearing this as a daily watch, and I plan on putting a metal band on it to make it a bit more casual - like the pictures below.

    Semper Fi,

Very personal opionion, but I've always found the Visodate dishwater plain and thick as a hockey puck. Of those you've named, I'd think most people would ultimately be happier with the more distinctive watches from Oris, Alpina, or - as you note, unlikely at that price in an automatic - Junghans. I'd suggest the handwound Max Bill models, as they are well within your price range when used, but they are rather small, at 34mm typically, IIRC. I like mine, but many people find them a bit too small.

    Too thick.

Buy this. Crushes anything under $1000 from any brand. Possibly $2000. The Signature line is fantastic. I have two of their models. This is brand new and the seller is good - I bought my latest Signature from them. I've had the black dial Grand Classic for 4 years and it's unbelievably nice.!07083!US!-1

I love my Visodate and highly recommend it. It’s one of the best values around, IMHO.

I have the white dial one and think it looks amazing. Definitely recommend it!

I wasn't a huge fan of the strap though so I replaced it with a Hirsch Duke and switched over the deployant clasp.

Profound 80's vibe (which could be a good or bad thing, depending on whether you like the style), with the day/date window that is out of proportion with the dial - strictly IMO, of course.

I didn’t like the black dial with white day/date. But the watch did have an air of quality for being so affordable.

    Nice straight up dress watch

I had one, and it's beautiful - I love that 60's look. But the case is very light and feels a bit... cheap. The finishing is definitely not there. At the time I bought a vintage Omega Geneve, and I could immediately tell the difference in build. But for the price... ya, it's alright.
