    Zenith Strap Options???

    So I have taken the plunge and got my zenith (with the assistance of WUS!) and I have been mostly happy so far. Works perfectly, dial is easy to read the movement is great to look at! Pic below;

My only issue is that I am not 100% sold on the strap. It is a shiny brown alligator strap which does suit my business wear (black leather) and is not casual either. I want to get a black strap with matched stiching and a steel bracelet in order to suit most occasions. Unfortunately the odd 21mm lug sizing makes options limited. My best research so far is the two below:

Black strap: IWC Style Genuine Black Alligator Strap with Black Stitch [iwc_blk_allig_match_21mm] - $114.95 : The Watch Boys, Providing quality products for watch collectors!Steel: Original Zenith El Primero Stainless Steel Watch Bracelet Band 21mm New | eBay

I am not sure if the steel bracelet will fit and it it is going to look right... I have done a mock up below:

Any feedback or other suggestions would be appreciated.

Good for you - cracking watch!

I'm used to black-dialled fleigers on brown leather straps (pictures of them anyway - I don't own any) so it looks normal to me. Distressed is best though I say. Conversely the bracelet looks out of sorts but again only due to familiarity. Would be good to see it in the metal. I hear that you can get decent aftermarket bracelets for really cheap - like £50 (you can afford it if you're buying this zenith) - so its probably worth trying regardless.

Black gator will look absolutely fine of course.

I don't think you can go wrong here. With its flight inspiration you could opt for a brown or black riveted strap. You could dress it up by going with black or keep it more casual with brown. You could also opt for alligator with either a black or brown strap. Black gator would make this very dressy. While a bracelet looks fine, it just seems a bit out of place on this watch. To me, a bracelet also implies that a watch is something of a tool watch and might go in the water, which is not the case here. I also am not a fan of aftermarket bracelets unless they are very high quality and look and fit just right, and since this is going on a Zenith it would pretty much have to be a perfect aftermarket bracelet to best your fine strap options for this one.

    Zenith Strap Options???

    Appreciate the input guys.

I think I already knew I wasn't happy with the bracelet, I would like the option tho.

I'll just get a black gator with matched stitching to dress it up a bit. When you take the brown strap off it does not really look like much of a pilot watch except in name. Now I just find the right one!

there is a recent thread in the zenith forum with pics of an aftermarket bracelet a member got for his pilot - might be worth checking out for reference:

The 21 mm lug width is a bit of a pain.
A 22 mm works well. Photo below is a 22 mm strap with your same watch. There are any number of classy (black if you prefer) 22 mm straps available.

This is the Zenith Pilot Big Date on mesh. Looks cool to me. I'm not sure if the Pilot Big Date also has 21mm lugs or not, but if it does, you can probably get the OEM from Zenith (for a lot of money).

I found a 21mm mesh strap, though it is not as elegant as the one above:

For me, I would wear that watch on a medium brown, light brown, or tan strap. But if you want to switch to black, here's some links for 21mm leather straps:

    Black ostrich might be nice:

    This was interesting.
I'm going to change my black Croco on my Glashütte to a cognac colored Rios 244 Prestige. It is difficult to find the right width, 19 mm / 18. I have had contact with a person on Rios and for a very small addition he can make the right width 19 mm/18 mm. Delivery time is 4-6 weeks.Anders

    Re: Zenith Strap Options???

There are a ton of custom strap makers that will make one to whatever specification you like. I had a 21mm blue strap made by stonecreek straps for a zenith of mine. Lovely watch by the way! I personally like the black face of that watch with a weathered brown strap, similar to what they put on the pilot big date.
