1st post - Advice needed please

    Hi all,

This is my first post here, so please be gentle with me

I have recently purchased a second-hand 18ct gold Seamaster De Ville automatic, from a local jeweller, but am looking for a "vintage" style buckle, as the standard "new" type doesn't (IMO) quite fit the appearance of the watch.

Could someone please point me towards a reputable source, where I can obtain a vintage buckle, either here in the UK, or if need be, overseas?

Also, could someone give me an approximate age for this watch? I've looked on Omega's website, but cannot find anything that looks similar - The jeweller I purchased the watch from said it's c. 1960s-70s, but as I don't have the tools to open the case, I cannot look up the S/N etc.

    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to WUS

Welcome to WUS and congratulations on your "new" DeVille. It looks like yours is from the late 60s to early 70s. As you note, in order to more precisely date it, you'll have to remove the back to get the SN off of the movement.

I don't know of anywhere to acquire vintage buckles, other than ebay, where I have acquired a few.

Good luck and enjoy that beautiful, old DeVille!

    Hi Eptaz,

    Thanks for the welcome.

I've had a quick look on eBay, as suggested and am now watching a couple of auctions for vintage buckles.

Now all I have to do is find a nice Ostrich skin strap (unfortunately, Omega don't do Ostrich O|, so it's going to have to be a good quality OEM strap) and my De Ville will be ready to hit the streets LOL.

Thanks again for the advice. It's greatly appreciated.

Hi, you can not open the back of this watch, you have take it to professional and let him remove the crystal and half of the winding stem to access the movement. This case is a monoque version .

    Best regards

Thanks for clarifying, ursmidur. I didn't realize it was that type of case.

    Hi Ursmidur,

Thanks for clarifying this. I thought this would be the case, (no pun intended) so I'll ask my jeweller to make a note of the SN and movement number, when I send it in to get the glass replaced.

By the way - I got a new Ostrich strap for my baby today - Pics are below B-)Shame I couldn't get an original Omega Ostrich strap, but this Condor one looks pretty swanky for now. B-) Next thing on my hit list is a 18ct vintage buckle
