The brittle Omega, how dare "James Bond" wear it!!!

I bought my first Omega as a wedding gift at the end of 2017.Unfortunately,it stopped at the end of 2019 which was still under warranty . Then, the watch was posted to the ShangHai SMH watch service center .According to the examing report without opening the watch, the hair spring is broken, which may caused by the tiny man-made damage on the lug.The damage location is 11 clock direction. You can find it by zooming in the attached image. The problem will be solved if $480,almost my month's salary, is paid on the basis of the warranty policy.
However,it seems the Omega's "Si 14" hair spring is too brittle to daily use,let alone the "James Bond Usage". Scratches and slight impact are resonable during 2 years' normal wear.

Sucks that it's broken and you have to incur such a hefty fee for warranty work but you know James Bond is fictional right???

Fair call, the OP is not doing what JB does on a regular basis, we could say he's doing lighter duties.

Just from those light duties his Omega has bit the dust, its fair for him to conclude that this watch would not fair well on the wrist of Bond.

Have you done any Bond like activities in said watch OP?

    Welcome to WUS!

Sounds like they're trying to get out of having to do warranty service. I would not take that without a fight. Escalate it.

Hmmm.. I don't see any damage anywhere tbh.

Anyway I do almost everything with that same watch. I cycle, swim, running, office work.... Nearly 3 years with it now. No problems. And rarely do I hear problems with it from others here too. Unlucky maybe or perhaps you got a bad piece? Hope it gets sorted out.

Iím not a watchmaker maybe thatís why I donít understand how this explanation is possible. Damage to the lug could cause hair spring damage? Do they mean damage to the lug indicates abnormal
impact (e.g., a high height drop causing damage)?

emm, they do mean damage to the lug indicates abnormal impact.
But I insist this damage should not damage the hair spring if it is a well-made hair spring (e.g.,a low bed fall to the floor).

If the James Bond is fictional right ,they should set reminders along with the James Bond advertisement, like “Pure fiction, please do not imitate, keep your watch in the glass case carefully!”
