Buying from Omega boutique but watch has an error

    Hey guys,

I am going to be buying a watch from the Omega boutique store but needed your opinion on a possible error. The watch is a limited edition watch that usually has the words “limited edition” and “xxx/3000” on the caseback.

    This is a new watch.

The thing with this watch is that it does not have the “xxx/3000” on the caseback. I talked to the store manager and they would be willing to write a letter that says that it’s an error and it should have had the numbering on the back.

The paperwork such as the warranty card and all has the numbering.

    Questions:

Is it advisable to buy a watch if it has such an error?

    Will the letter help?

I don’t care about resale value as I want to keep it for a while but if my financial health or job goes then I will need to be able to sell luxury items so as long as it doesn’t lose more value than a similar “numbered” watch then I’m fine.

    Thanks,

    T

Just ask them to replace it under warranty if it’s incorrect. And you should be sorted.

I think resale will suffer. I’d have it fixed right away.

Who's going to to fix it?
Omega is not going to provide a new caseback with the correct LE number if the original has been stolen/swapped by someone at the store.

If Omega doesn’t provide a replacement case I wouldn’t buy it unless it was an amazing deal.

Are you 100% correct it is supposed to be marked limited addition on the case back.
If it were me I would not buy it.
It is not correct if it is supposed to be marked limited addition on the case back.
How Omega quality control let it out for sale if this is correct would make me wonder if I was going to buy it from someone second hand.
It is entirely up to you but I would look for a correct one plus it would drive me crazy knowing it was not correct.

Re: Buying from Omega boutique but watch has an error

If the watch is not proper, even from an AD, don't buy it.

Imagine if you buy it, it stops working for some reason during the warranty period and you bring it in for service. It's refused because, well it doesn't have the limited edition numbering. Oh sure you have a letter but unless it's properly certified, notarized or whatever, any given AD or even Omega might deny its authenticity. Then you've got a paperweight you can never get fixed.

    Nope, don't buy it.

There seem to be plenty of Apollo 17th models out there so make sure you know which one you're looking at and exactly how it needs to look. I just Googled plenty of images that show the different models and casebacks and some might not have numbering. So make sure you know exactly which version this one is.

If it's not right and you bought it anyway, that's on you to suck up. Do your proper research.
