    Buying watches in Japan

Hey guys. This article rolled around on my Facebook feed and having firsthand experience buying luxury wristwatches in Japan I can certainly attest to the veracity of its content. Plus, it featured a Planet Ocean as the primary example 🙂

If any of you visit Japan and also happen to be looking at a new watch purchase I highly recommend taking a look at the shops in the Nakano area in Tokyo. I've purchased my two omegas for great prices brand new and with box and papers. Great discounts can be had on almost any brand and model except stainless steel rolexes and Patek Nautilus.

Hi Jeremy, sounds interesting! Which article? - Is there a link?

Better half & I visiting Japan again (mainly Kyoto) starting in a couple of days.

( - mainly interested in finding the Ω Polprof ratcheting clasp for the OEM shark mesh on my 42mm PO, love it but the seat belt clasp isn't adjustable on the fly, & wrists swelling as it's becoming very warm again....)

    Cheers, William

I had a friend once hunt for a rare moonphase speedmaster through the Japan market. They do have some crazy examples in Japan!

Well, you gotta make sure you don't get caught by the customs people, or else you pay the taxes.

yeah but a shiny watch on you and a clean box in your luggage, or even more watches in boxes, we all know they are addictive

Yeah they are, true. Maybe getting past one is doable but I'd say more than one is a bit of a stretch. And for sure Mr. Customs doesn't have any sympathy!

I live in Japan. But I believe the customs duties are not all that high. At least for the US it is something like a few hundred for 10k?

I have bought watches from Japan... agree completely with the OP. Besides, the 2nd hand market supply is aplenty with very competitive prices.
