    Ebay Crap

My latest crappy watch has arrived today which i bought form ebay.. as we all know ebay is full of crap with no warranty and more dangerous than a pool of pirhanas :-D .. i am really enjoying these manual wind 1940's - 1950's omega watches.. i think that they look really stylish, and wish more manufacturers made the second hand at the 6pm position like these. You can still pick these style of watches up for around the $250-500 mark easily.
Lets see what other crappy watches people have bought from ebay.. :-D:-D

I don't do much deal on the bay. Here are some. The most problematic one would be this Heuer Bund that came with wrong crystal. Someone in the forums help me locate a correct one...

All others just need to be serviced.

Mamas, those 40's -50's Omega are very tempting for me for the looks and price. I just don't know much about them so, I'm still reluctant to get one.

    Re: Ebay Crap

    Here are a few of the many I've picked up off the 'Bay over the years;

There have been many more including three white dialed GMTs; a bunch of Speedy Pros including a 20th Apollo XI and two "last man" Apollo XVIIs; an 18k Rolex Daytona and a RG Patek 5015,

I've had 850 transactions on eBay in over 4 1/2 years with 100% positive feedback. I hear all of the horror stories but I've only had one bad buy and eBay and PayPal forced a complete refund. My worst experience was with a guy who had "buyer's remorse" and accused me of selling him a fake Omega Classic. I finally won the battle but it tied up my PayPal account for a couple of months.

My weirdest experience occured recently when I knowingly bought a fake AT. The seller and I discussed it on the phone before I bought it and he shipped it for me to inspect without me even paying him. I returned it and he sold it to someone else whose watchmaker said it was genuine. Go figure. :-S

I purchased this one from a very well known (and trusted)EBAY seller.

This one I held my breath on since it came from Thailand--I then sent it to Omega for the full treatment.

    Re: Ebay Crap

Got more than half of my watches from Ebay. 2 of them came from Germany, 1 from Hong Kong, 1 from Malaysia, 1 from Thailand, the others from all over the US; at very reasonable prices too. Only a couple of them needed servicing.

Would I be able to get these pieces at these prices if I were to confine myself to brick & mortar sellers here in NYC? I very much doubt that.

There are lots of good deals you can get in Ebay, provided you do your homework. Where do you think a lot of these vintage watch dealers find their stocks?

    Congrats, mamas!

Congrats on the "new" one, mamas! As you regularly demonstrate, if you do your research, build up your knowledge, and have friends to help out, some nice watches can wash up on the bay.

I picked up a few there, myself:

My "birthyear" 176.007 was my first ebay watch purchase:

It wasn't an entirely pleasant experience, dealing with this seller. The watch wasn't quite as described (the last link in the bracelet was badly bent and, though he claimed it had "just been serviced," it had not. Fortunately, we ended up working it out to a decent conclusion. I'm glad we did, because it's become a favorite.

After a lengthy break, I've managed to pick up a few others:

This c.5100 "poor man's grail" (for a silly price):

This one looks and runs great.

    A c.5012 Navigator:

I really like this one, but it's running reeeeeeally fast, and it's going to be checked out, soon.

    And, this little beater:

    Which, is running great.

In general, I factor the cost of a service in to my maximum bid. I can't complain, so far!

Even though, we sometimes like to give our ebay-avoiding friend a hard time, you still gotta play it safe and be on your toes. Bad things can happen to good people

Me, I just enjoy the hunt!
