I bought my first Omega at the age of 14 back in 1972.

29 here. Right before we found out my wife was pregnant we were looking at my AT. I have no clue why I walked into the AD, but I just did. I saw this piece and I was amazed so I had to show it to my wife. And she was all on board for me to buy it. And I told her, “are you crazy! I’m not going to spend that much on a watch!”

The next week I came home from work and my wife surprised me with a white box and I started getting excited and angry all at the same time! Turns out she surprised me with the pregnancy test!

We went back to the AD later in the week to buy the watch to celebrate, and what did the AD give when it was all packaged together? A white box! Stupid I know, but it was such a fun time for us and now a year later we are still having fun with our little prince!

Re: First Omega - what age and why did you get an omega?

I consider myself an "Omega Guy" first and foremost. I got my first pieces back in the 80's when I was a kid and used to visit the local jewelry stores who always had some backstock of NOS vintage pieces that they couldn't sell, or ransom old vintage pieces, and forgotten about in the vault, most from the 50's and 60's. To this day I always ask, "anything in the back?"

I bought brands such as Omega, Girard Perregaux, IWC, Movado, Piaget, etc. with some occasional Hamilton and Bulova thrown in. Most in the $50-100 range tho the Piaget was quite a bit more. Being so fortunate to start with these brands I recognized quality right away and had a large collection of a couple dozen pieces that I only sold off once I started driving to pay for insurance, gas, and such. In my 30's I got back into collecting and focused on Tudor, some Rolex, IWC, and Omega. Sold off the pieces I wasn;t wearing and now have a very modest selection that fulfills most of my needs.

I haven't been on the forums in a very long time but started getting the Omega bug again and am considering a Dynamic Chronograph in the near future. To me, Omega has always represented reliability and accuracy above all. Far more accurate than my IWC and most other brands. As far as Omegas go I've had the vintage pieces, a Ploprof, a couple of Flightmasters, two Dynamic chronos, a stop watch, Schumacher reduced triple date with the lovely multicolored subdials, and a few more I'm forgetting.
    Current pieces:
    IWC 3706 Fliegerchronograph (daily)
    Omega Flightmaster cal. 911
    Seiko Prospex Turtle SRP777

My first was a Speedy chrono date with a graphite colored dial; a gift from my dad in my early thirties sometime.

I was about 21 when my grandmother handed me my grandfather's Seamaster Cosmic 166.026 from 1969. He had passed earlier that year but had previously expressed his intention to give me his Omega, which he received as a gift from a patient of his. It's a simple but very well made watch of the classic 60s design. He never wore it and it is in mint shape. Also has the wonderful automatic cal 565.

I'm 29 now and will likely be purchasing a newer Speedy Pro soon to mark 30.

Great story! I'm Navy as well and I can't imagine the ship's store carrying anything like this now. Not when the young guys only want Oakleys, G-shocks, and Red Bulls haha.

First Omega - what age and why did you get an omega?

    27 years old. eBay - Omega 2541.80.00

I was in China with my wife and watched a lot of 007 DVDs. I was at the markets and bought a replica 2341.80.00. Didn't know much about Omega but liked the look of it.

Got home and learned about Omega watches and then decided I wanted a Quartz Seamaster, no more replica.

After a lot of hunting I got mine.

I was 24 when I bought my Speedy Mark 2. Never should have sold that one. 26 when I bought the Seamster Professional GMT.

For my 30th, I'll buy myself a Planet Ocean GMT.
