First Omega - what age and why did you get an omega?

43, turning 44 in two weeks and I've just landed my very first Omega ever last night, in the form of the PO 8500 42mm and I AM STOKED!!

What a beautifully made watch! I own a PAM 112 and a Tudor Black Bay, but this Omega feels and looks luxurious!

I don't think I will ever get to a point where I shell out 10k for a watch, but my Omega sure competes with the lot of them.

It was 1968. I was 26 years old, stationed on an aircraft carrier in the mediterranean. The ship's jewelry store had a watch that caught my eye and I had to have it. I chose it over a good selection of Rolex Cosmonauts, and in the 50 years since, in spite of flippling dozens of watches (Omega, Grand Seiko, Breitling, etc.) that first Omega is still with me.

First Omega - what age and why did you get an omega?

A friendís brother had a Seamaster, so I was aware of the brand.

Then in 2005, at the age of 42, the Planet Ocean was released and Iíve been hooked to the model ever since.
Iím particularly fond of its connection with the colour orange and all orange models.

Strangely, my first Omega in that same year was a Speedmaster, then a Seamaster, before the POs.

Iím glad and proud to say I have owned the ultimate PO, the POLMLE.

I received my first "luxury" watch in 1996 - a TAG Heuer 2000, as a gift from my parents after graduating university followed-up with a technical diploma. I wore that watch every day for 19+ years, then my dad gifted me his Omega SMP 2531.80 in the summer of 2016. I was 45 then. I first saw him wearing it about 6 months earlier and commented that he had the Bond SMP. He was impressed with my knowledge, and decided to give me his watch! Can't beat that!

My first Omega, which was also my first mechanical watch, was the early Seamaster Diver James Bond. I dont have it anymore but that was probably a mistake as getting rid of it led to a chain of events which caused a whole lot of flipping and monetary loss .... :)

My latest is the railmaster, which in someways is a watch I would never have wanted when I started as it doesn't have a bezel and a date. However as my watch taste has matured I like two distinct kinds of watch, the simple and beautiful (railmaster) and the somewhat crazy (U-Boat) :D

I actually inherited my first Omega when my father passed away. He bought it circa 1958 while on a trip in Switzerland. He used it for almost 30 years before his passing away in 1986 ! Believe it or not it still runs perfectly and keeps about +10-s/day. I hardly wear it for fear of spoiling it since it has tremendous emotional value for my mom .. Since then I have had the pleasure of buying many Omegas including two PO (master Chrono), DIVER 300M (older model with 3330 cal.) and the newest Speedmaster Moon Phase. Saving up now for the newest DIVER 300M chrono set for release in August (shown in my avatar) :)..
    cheers

I was 25, my girl at the time worked for a jeweler and was able to buy a watch from any vendor they were AD of once a year. I received an Omega Seamaster Gmt 2254.50 50th anniversary. It has traveled the world with me. That gmt hand has been great! I plan to keep it in the family. Hoping one of my boys enjoys it like I have.

Age 33 - inherited an old seamaster bumper (circa 1958) from my father. Have tried to get it serviced, but still not running well. Looking for the right place to take it. In the meantime, at age 34 I got myself a working 210.32.42.20.06.001 - beautiful piece and hasn't left my wrist!Name: 2019-06-14 18.01.54.jpg
