EDIT: I should note, I realize there are lower production series in precious metals. I am specifically referring to steel LE speedy's.
The Mitsukoshi (300 pcs) springs to mind.

And the Italian “Albino” was also 500.

To name two off the top of my head...

Ah thank you! I didn't see those numbers in my search. Now I have to go look them up!!!

I think it looks like a hot mess. The blue/black indicator and plane tip date pointer belong on the MK40, not an 861. The extra minute track makes it look crowded. Why not rerelease the triple date with some stupid overpriced Hodinkee straps (in the style that they "popularized")?

If they release a TGV limited edition I'm going to vomit.

I've always loved the look of the MK40, and this hits all the bases. That said, not sure why the sub seconds dial has the Mk40 paint job since it's not a 24 hour indicator. I'm willing to forgive that for the cool look and the story though...

Hodinkee just released a 500 piece limited edition Speedmaster in honor of their 10th anniversary. It's styled after the MK40, but with an 1861 movement and the newer 39.7mm straight lug case.

I'm sure yet another limited edition, Hodinkee association, and rehashing of a classic will draw mixed reaction, but I think it looks great. All the unique and quirky style of the MK40, but with the hand wound movement and updated case. It was obviously popular as all 500 pieces sold out in less than 5 minutes it seems.

Personally I like this one a lot. I currently own a FOIS and it is honestly making that watch feel very boring and dated.

It is a fun and cool watch with nautical colors that feels very fresh and different like nothing else on the market.

Don't get all the hate over at the Omega forums but to each his own. I know more people who love it than hate it IRL.

Maybe it appeals much more to the the next generation of watch collectors. We will see.

I'm with you. I like it as well. I dont think they intended it to be exactly like the MK40 so all the hate saying its not enough like that watch doesn't make sense to me. But like you said, to each their own. I'll be watching to see how people feel when we get more hands on reports. I have a feeling it may grow on some of the crowd here once we all realize its supposed to be its own new watch that only pays homage to an older model.

They gone! One classic that did not need to be "re-issued."

how many LEs have been released this year?! this one is surely the worst of the lot - not because it's linked to hodinkee but it just hasn't been executed very well. too busy and a lot of the 'features' the colours are supposed to replicate from the MK40 are completely redundant, such as the day/night blue black at the 9 subdial.

Too expensive but I love it. I think a tropic strap would fit it very well.
